Focus on sustainability

Small changes in product size & weight lead to lower carbon emissions.
We created Compact by Design to identify products that, while they may not always look very different, have a more efficient design. With the removal of excess air and water, products require less packaging and become more efficient to ship. At scale, these small differences in product size and weight lead to significant carbon emission reductions.

Finally, Something Without So Much PlasticGood grief knows we have saturated our daily human environments around the globe to the point we are eating about one credit card worth of plastic a week without knowing in our food and drinks, as some researchers estimate for the prevalence of microplastics. The fault largely falls on the giant manufacturers of the world who keep making these plastic products almost unavoidable:#1 – Only less than 10% of plastics get recycled globally since 2022, and around 5-6% in the US. The rest are either incinerated (pollution) or dumped into landfills, a portion which end up in our bodies of water.#2 – Plastics severely loose their capacity to be reused when recycled (why do you think China banned recyclable plastic imports in 2018?). Unlike aluminum or glass, which can be recycled for decades.#3 – Recycling cost more than producing virgin plastic, so companies do not have incentives to change the status quo they designed. So don’t fall for the green recycling movements companies, their subsidiaries, and partnership groups advertise as most have proven to be diversions at best or plain lies at worst. As a species, humanity isn’t going to recycle their way to salvation, at the rate we are producing disposable trash (single-use utensils, bottles, bags). One way to “encourage” corporations and investors to veer from plastic single-use products is simply by voting with your money. Not exactly a hero clashing against the forces of evil, but have at it. Buy re-usable tools, containers, and biodegradable or environmentally friendly products.I use 2 laundry sheets per load.

Skeptical at firstA friend recommend these as a way of reducing my plastic usage. I was skeptical at first because I use mostly cold water for laundry & have had issues with anything but liquid detergent. These work amazing even in cold water. Definitely switching to these permanently.

Easy, convenient and effectiveI have been using these detergent sheets for about a year, and find that they clean well, they have a neutral scent, and are super easy to use. I like that they don’t have a lot of plastic packaging to get rid of, or lug home from the store. I don’t have any skin irritation from using this product, either. All in all, it does what it promises in a form factor that is a huge improvement over jugs of detergent or even pods. I suppose you could even tear a sheet in half to use on small loads (where you can’t adjust how much detergent you use with a pod). All good.

Ditch the plastic! This product is so convenient to use. It is light weight, no more heavy jugs of detergent. Just toss one sheet into the washer with the clothes and it cleans beautifully without any over powering scent. Best of all no more plastic!!

Has issues, but please try itBelieve me when I say I am 100% behind the idea of detergent sheets, both for convenience and for the greatly-reduced environmental impact. I definitely think we consumers need to push other detergent makers to move in this direction. (At the very least they should be packaging liquid products in truly recyclable containers—just as milk distributors do— God knows they’ve got the money.). I also like the fact that this is a “majority woman owned” company.I think this product does a decent job of cleaning clothes, although I agree with some other reviewers that it won’t necessarily remove stains so they may require a separate prewash treatment. This is true of many detergents. My biggest problem has been one also shared with other reviewers: it doesn’t dissolve that well in cold water. When I just toss a sheet into the machine with my clothes, it usually does not dissolve well. Like others, I’ve found residue on clothes and on the drum of the washing machine, which is annoying, but may also mean that clothes are not thoroughly cleaned. The solution to this problem is, of course, to dissolve it in water before adding it to the machine. This works, but makes the product less convenient if you’re in a hurry (aren’t we all). Even dissolved this way it leaves a bit of a sludge on the container you’re using. The concern is that any problems with a product like this will discourage prospective users. Plastics are just ruining our environment. The most honest estimates are that only about 9% of the plastics we try to recycle actually make it out of the landfill. In my area, only plastics marked 1 or 2 are actually recycled—everything else goes to landfill because the cost of recycling them is just too high. How can this be true in 2022?Given everything, I’ll buy this product again. And bravo to this company for trying.

Great at cleaningI live these laundry sheets. They even do a great job a cleaning my husbands grubby work clothes. I also love they they don’t take up any space, no heavy liquid laundry jug and are of course eco friendly. The only negative which really isn’t a negative is that the sheets can stick together a bit, but our laundry is in the garage and we live aim a humid climate.

Eos laundry sheets. Cleans wellI used Eos laundry sheet like any other. I wasn’t necessarily impressed until I got hair dye on my bathrobe & it removed the stain completely!
